BYD’s luxury sub-brand YangWang has launched its new flagship sedan, the U7, in China. The vehicle stands out for its impressive performance, offering supercar-like specs at a relatively affordable price starting around $86,000 USD.

The U7 is powered by a quad-motor all-wheel-drive setup that produces 1,287 horsepower and 1,239 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 167 mph. Its 135.5-kWh battery provides up to 447 miles of range on China’s CLTC test cycle and supports ultra-fast 500 kW charging.

The U7 also features BYD’s new DiSus-Z suspension system, designed to ensure a smooth ride by using linear actuators, and it can stabilize the car in the event of a tire blowout. The sedan is equipped with rear-wheel steering and a Level 2 autonomous driving system called “God’s Eye.” Inside, the U7 offers luxury with red Nappa leather upholstery, massage seats, fold-out tables, a mini fridge, and three main screens, including a 23.6-inch digital cluster. Rear passengers enjoy twin 12.8-inch displays and “temperature sensing” armrests.

For those not ready to fully commit to an electric vehicle, a plug-in hybrid version of the U7 is also available. This version maintains the four-motor setup and features a 52.4-kWh battery paired with a turbocharged flat-four engine, offering a total range of 621 miles. At this time, the U7 is expected to remain a China-exclusive model, with no plans for an international release.
