Toyota’s latest electric vehicle (EV), the bZ3X, has quickly become a top seller in China, with over 10,000 units delivered just one month after its launch. As orders continue to flood in, Toyota is seeing strong demand for the affordable electric SUV.

The bZ3X, which made its debut last month, is Toyota’s most affordable electric SUV to date, with a starting price of 109,800 yuan (approximately $15,000). It is described as the company’s first pure electric SUV priced at under 100,000 yuan.

According to Peng Baolin, General Manager of Sales at GAC-Toyota, more than 10,000 bZ3X units have already been delivered. Additionally, there are currently 12,000 pending orders, signaling a growing demand for the vehicle.

The bZ3X is built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform and has dimensions similar to those of the BYD Yuan Plus (also known as the Atto 3 internationally). The electric SUV is 4,645 mm long, 1,885 mm wide, and 1,625 mm high.

Available in two versions, the bZ3X offers a standard model without smart driving features, and an upgraded version with advanced smart driving tech. The base model starts at 109,800 yuan ($15,800) and comes in five trims. For those seeking smart driving technology, the model with these features is priced at 149,800 yuan ($20,500).

The entry-level “430 Air” model is equipped with a 50.03 kWh battery, providing a driving range of up to 430 km (267 miles) under the CLTC cycle. The top-tier “610 Max” model, featuring a 67.92 kWh battery, offers a range of up to 610 km (379 miles) and is priced from 159,800 yuan ($22,000).

Inside, the bZ3X features a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch display for the driver. Toyota has designed the interior to maximize comfort, with nearly 3 meters of space available when the front and rear seats are folded down. The smart driving model is powered by Momenta’s 5.0 Intelligent Driving System, enabling Level 2 assisted driving.

Following the launch, GAC-Toyota reported that the bZ3X’s popularity caused the company’s ordering system to crash as more than 10,000 orders were placed in under an hour.

Looking ahead, Toyota plans to expand its electric vehicle offerings in China, including the upcoming bZ7 sedan and a new Lexus ES, both expected to launch within the next year.
