Toyota North America has announced an $8 million investment in its West Virginia plant, which has been operational since 1996. This brings the total investment in the facility to over $2.8 billion. The latest investment will focus on assembling the brand’s new hybrid transaxles.
A hybrid transaxle is a key component in electrified vehicles, managing the transfer of power between the engine, electric motor, and wheels. Toyota’s systems have been refining this technology for over two decades. Production of these components will begin in 2026, with the parts being supplied to both Toyota and Lexus models in the future.
This move is part of Toyota’s “best in town” philosophy, which emphasizes local manufacturing to support the economies of the countries where the company operates. Toyota employs 50,000 people across 11 manufacturing plants in North America. The company has no plans to reduce this workforce and aims to continue growing its presence in the U.S., creating more jobs and further investing in the market.
