Dubai Taxi Company Orders 200 All-Electric BYD Seal Cars

by Grace

The Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) is taking a major step towards electrifying its fleet by ordering 200 all-electric BYD Seal vehicles. This move aligns with Dubai’s broader goal to have only electric taxis on the roads by 2027.

DTC has partnered with Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in the UAE. Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi, CEO of DTC, highlighted that adding 200 BYD electric vehicles is a key move to enhance innovation, improve operational efficiency, and promote environmental sustainability.

Currently, more than 86% of DTC’s fleet consists of environmentally friendly vehicles, which include all-electric, hybrid, and hydrogen cars. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) aims for only these types of vehicles to operate as taxis by 2027. DTC also has a goal of converting its entire fleet to fully electric taxis by 2040.

Taxis are essential in Dubai, with approximately 11,400 taxis serving the city’s 3 million residents, including a significant number of tourists. DTC operates the largest fleet, with around 6,000 taxis and 3,400 vehicles for limousine services. Other taxi operators are also embracing electric vehicles. For example, Arabia Taxi introduced 269 Tesla Model 3s in Dubai two years ago.
