Volkswagen has revealed the pricing for its new third-generation Tiguan, a mid-size SUV that strikes a balance between competitive pricing and a wealth of standard features.
The entry-level Tiguan 110TSI Life starts at $44,990 before on-road costs, which is a $1,000 increase over the previous model—an increase that remains modest given current market trends.
Volkswagen aims to position the new Tiguan as a strong competitor to many popular mid-size SUVs, including the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Mitsubishi Outlander.
Standard features in the base model include 19-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, a powered tailgate, and a 360-degree parking camera. The Tiguan also comes with a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, satellite navigation, wireless smartphone integration, and a Digital Cockpit Pro widescreen driver display. Comprehensive safety features include Travel Assist semi-autonomous driving, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert.
Stepping up to the Tiguan 110TSI Elegance, priced at $50,690 before on-road costs, brings added luxury, including leather-appointed seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, plus LED Plus headlights with an illuminated grille strip.
For those seeking more performance, the Tiguan 150TSI R-Line starts at $55,990 before on-road costs. This model features all-wheel drive and a more powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 7.1 seconds.
The Tiguan 195TSI R-Line, the performance flagship, is priced at $70,490 before on-road costs. It delivers 195kW and 400Nm, reaching 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds. This premium variant is packed with features, including 20-inch wheels, HD Matrix LED headlights, a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen, a head-up display, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
Volkswagen’s pricing strategy places the mid-range Tiguan models in direct competition with mainstream rivals, while the higher-end variants offer a more performance-oriented option for those seeking greater driver engagement.
The mid-size SUV market in Australia remains highly competitive, and Volkswagen’s approach of offering “attainable and elevated” models aims to carve out a unique position between mainstream and premium brands. The 2025 Tiguan reflects the brand’s broader strategy of delivering better value in its SUV range, aligning with the repositioned Touareg and the new electric ID.4 and ID.5 models.
Volkswagen’s Head of Product, Arjun Nidigallu, emphasized the brand’s goal of becoming “an elevated mainstream brand,” offering customers a vehicle with excellent value, safety features, and technology at competitive prices.
