Volkswagen Australia has announced local pricing and specifications for the third-generation Tiguan ahead of its May launch. The new model will start at $44,990 plus on-road costs, which is $1,000 more than the previous version. However, the new Tiguan is both larger and better equipped than its predecessor.
The top model in the range is the new 195TSI R-Line, priced at $70,490 +ORC. Volkswagen describes this model as a replacement for both the former 162TSI R-Line and the high-performance Tiguan R. The 195TSI R-Line is $9,990 more expensive than the 162TSI R-Line but $3,300 less than the Tiguan R.
Volkswagen has also introduced new models in the middle of the range. Despite the price increase, the base 110TSI Life now offers better features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen, an electric tailgate, a 360-degree camera, satellite navigation, wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and DAB+ digital radio.
The new Tiguan will be available with three turbocharged petrol engine options: a 1.4-litre producing 110kW/250Nm, a 2.0-litre with 150kW/320Nm, and a 2.0-litre tuned to 195kW/400Nm. All engines are paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 110TSI is front-wheel drive, while the 150TSI and 195TSI are all-wheel drive.
Although the 110TSI engine remains the same as the previous Tiguan’s 132TSI, it now benefits from an additional gear, making it a seven-speed transmission. The 132TSI has now been replaced by the 150TSI, and the 162TSI is now the 195TSI.
