BYD has officially launched the Tang L, its new flagship SUV in the Dynasty series. Available in both pure electric and hybrid powertrain options, the Tang L comes in six variants priced between 229,800 and 289,800 yuan (31,700 to 40,000 USD).

The Tang L is built on BYD’s Super e-Platform and introduces the brand’s latest design language. It features a sleek, largely enclosed front fascia that emphasizes its new energy identity. The vehicle is 5040 mm long, 1996 mm wide, and 1760 mm high, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, placing it in the mid-to-large SUV category. It is available in both six- and seven-seat configurations.

Inside, the Tang L boasts a wrap-around cockpit design with a two-tone color scheme and matte gray metallic panels. The dashboard is fully digital, with a large 15.6-inch central control screen. An optional AR-HUD (augmented reality head-up display) is also available. The vehicle’s air vents are seamlessly integrated into the interior design, and the electronic shifter helps create a streamlined center console layout.

One of the standout features of the Tang L is an integrated drone system, available on select models. A compartment on the roof holds a drone and charging equipment that can be deployed at the touch of a button. The drone offers a flight range of up to 2 kilometers.

In terms of driver assistance, the Tang L comes standard with BYD’s DiPilot 300 system, which includes the “God’s Eye” B, and features roof-mounted LiDAR on higher trims. The vehicle also comes equipped with the DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit system.

For powertrain options, the pure electric Tang L offers both single and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant is said to have the world’s highest-power motor, reaching 30,511 rpm and producing 580 kW (788 hp). The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version adds a 230 kW front motor, delivering a total system power of 810 kW (1,100 hp) and achieving 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

All electric versions come with a 100.53 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering impressive ranges according to the CLTC standard: 670 km for the rear-wheel-drive model, 600 km for the all-wheel-drive model, and 560 km for the drone-equipped version. The Tang L uses a 1000V high-voltage platform and megawatt flash charging technology, which allows for 400 kilometers of range with just a 5-minute charge. The vehicle supports dual-gun supercharging with a power output of up to 351 kW when using 180 kW public charging stations.

The hybrid version of the Tang L introduces BYD’s latest DM-P technology, combining a high-efficiency engine with dual electric motors. This powertrain enables 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.3 seconds while achieving a fuel consumption rate of just 5.6 liters per 100 km under NEDC standards in charge-depleting mode. The hybrid variants are equipped with a 35.62 kWh battery, offering electric-only ranges between 175 km and 215 km depending on the configuration.

On the exterior, the Tang L incorporates BYD’s Dragon Face design language, with modified proportions that give the vehicle a more dynamic appearance. The D-pillar is specially designed to improve natural lighting and visibility for third-row passengers. At the rear, the vehicle features minimalist styling with distinctive lighting elements inspired by Chinese cultural motifs, such as phoenix wings and bamboo weaving patterns.
