Genesis has unveiled two new concept cars based on its flagship G90 luxury sedan. These models, the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible, showcase an evolution of the brand’s design language, offering a glimpse into what could be future production cars.
The new concepts retain key elements of the G90’s design, such as the signature “Two-Lines” headlights and taillights. However, they diverge from the production sedan with some notable changes. The diamond-shaped front grille is positioned lower on the fascia and now features additional air intakes. The front fenders are also wider, and the rear bumper is smoother to highlight the taillight design.
The X Gran Coupe Concept introduces a new roof and cant rail design, which Genesis says gives it the look of a sports car canopy. While the roofed version of the X Gran Convertible Concept hasn’t been shown, the top-down version reveals a more extended beltline that separates the body from the soft top.
Genesis drew inspiration from the Mediterranean for both concepts. The Gran Coupe Concept features a green exterior, mirroring the color of olive trees. Inside, it has a matching green and brown interior, accented with an olive wood veneer and a microperforated design that echoes the look of an olive branch. The X Gran Convertible Concept takes a bolder approach, with a violet exterior inspired by pressed grapes and a deep blue interior drawn from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from Italy’s Livorno region.
While Genesis has not disclosed the powertrain details, earlier X concepts were expected to be electric. These latest concepts share the G90’s base, leading to speculation that they may be produced as high-end versions of the G90. If they are, the stunning color scheme of the X Gran Convertible would be a welcome feature.
