Audi Is Selling Iconic Race Cars Like the R18 and RS5 DTM to the Public

by Grace

Audi is launching an exciting new program that allows car enthusiasts to own genuine, competition-tested race cars. These are not just any old cars; they are iconic machines that have made their mark in motorsport, restored and ready for the road or track.

The program, called Audi Sport Racing Legends, marks the brand’s foray into selling high-performance race cars to the public. However, it’s not open to just anyone with cash in hand. Audi is seeking buyers who appreciate the cars’ rich heritage and racing pedigree, not just their power.

The launch features two standout vehicles. The first is the R18 e-tron Quattro with chassis number 207. This car was part of Audi’s 2012 victory in the FIA World Endurance Championship at Spa-Francorchamps. While it didn’t win Le Mans that year, it is of the same type that secured the victory at the famed race.

Also up for sale is an RS 5 DTM, chassis 107, which claimed victory in the 2015 DTM finale at Hockenheim.

Restored to Racing Glory

These cars won’t be sold in worn-out condition. Audi promises to restore each vehicle to its former racing glory. “We rebuild these chassis with reconditioned parts to strict standards, ensuring they meet high-performance specifications,” said Rolf Michl, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. In some cases, even the original engineers from those racing days are involved in the restoration.

More Than Just a Car Sale

Purchasing one of these cars is not just a transaction, but an entry into an exclusive group. “The Audi R18 e-tron Quattro and RS 5 DTM are two of the fastest cars Audi has ever built,” Michl explained. Buyers will not only acquire highly sought-after race cars but also experience a thrilling connection to Audi’s motorsport legacy. They will enjoy full support from Audi, including expert advice and assistance, whether they wish to drive for fun or return to the track.

Audi plans to showcase these iconic cars at several events this year. They will be on display in Germany from May 9–11, in France from July 3–6, and at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK from July 10–13. Sales are expected to begin later in the year.
