BMW M Motorsport has unveiled the new BMW M2 Racing just ahead of its market debut at the DTM season opener in Oschersleben. Set to be available to customers for the 2026 season, the car is already deep into development and testing.
Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, emphasized the company’s continued commitment to performance: “With the introduction of the BMW M2 Racing, we are continuing a proud tradition. Like its predecessors, the BMW M235i Racing, BMW M240i Racing, and BMW M2 CS Racing, the new M2 Racing will redefine the entry-level segment. This car offers affordability without compromising on performance, durability, or the pure joy of driving. At BMW M Motorsport, we focus on supporting customer racing with vehicles that are easy to maintain, cost-effective, and exciting to drive.”
The BMW M2 Racing packs 230 kW (313 hp) and can reach speeds over 270 km/h. Built on the chassis of the current M2 model, it incorporates several racing components to boost its performance. Priced at €98,000 (net) in the EU, the car will be available through select BMW M Motorsport dealers.
Björn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport, highlighted the car’s combination of performance and ease of use: “With the BMW M2 Racing, we’ve created an entry-level racing car that blends driving pleasure with intuitive handling. Developed in close collaboration with experts from production, the car is powerful, simple to operate, and economical to maintain. This makes the M2 Racing especially appealing to grassroots motorsport, bringing racing to a wider audience.”
Jens Klingmann, one of BMW M’s works drivers, contributed to the car’s development and tested it in various rounds of the NLS. He added: “The BMW M2 Racing offers an exciting experience for drivers of all levels. It’s easy to operate, has low running costs thanks to its connection to the production model, and delivers the high performance expected from a race car. Whether you’re a beginner on track days or an experienced racer, the M2 Racing provides the driving pleasure that’s at the heart of every BMW M vehicle.”
The BMW M2 Racing is eligible for national and international sprint races as well as endurance events, including the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
