44K+ Audi Cars Recalled for Speedometer Software Issue

by Grace

Audi has issued a recall for over 44,000 vehicles due to a software malfunction that causes the instrument panel to fail, resulting in the loss of warning lights and the speedometer display.

The recall, posted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects 44,387 vehicles. The recall includes certain 2021 Audi models, such as the SQ8, A6 Sedan, A7, A8, Q7, Q8, RS6 Avant, RS7, RSQ8, S6 Sedan, S7, S8, A6 Allroad, and SQ7.

According to the recall notice, the problem arises when the virtual cockpit instrument cluster shuts down due to an internal fault. This failure prevents the display of key information, including engine speed (RPM), vehicle speed, and gear/mode indicators. Additionally, time, date, and mileage data will not appear, and important warning signals and gauges may not be visible. The lack of these vital displays could increase the risk of an accident.

Audi owners of affected 2021 models are advised to visit the NHTSA website and enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) to confirm if their vehicle is part of the recall. To fix the issue, Audi dealers will update the instrument panel software free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles will also receive notifications from dealers by May 30, 2025.

Volkswagen Group of America, which oversees Audi in the U.S., did not respond to FOX Business’ request for comment on the recall.

In a separate recall last year, Volkswagen recalled more than 261,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada due to a fuel tank issue that could lead to a potential fire hazard. That recall affected multiple models manufactured between 2015 and 2020.
